Many individuals are self-conscious about their bodies, especially those who have excess skin or fat. If you want to appear more slender or toned, we may have a procedure that’s right for you. At the Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery in Victoria, Australia, we offer several body procedures such as liposuction, abdominoplasty, and bodylift surgery to residents and guests of Australia who want to eliminate their bodies of excess skin and fat. And, for individuals looking to give their calf muscles more definition, we offer calf implants.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a tummy tuck, is an operation to reduce a protruding abdominal area. This surgery is typically performed on women who want to remove excess skin and fat following weight loss or childbirth. During abdominoplasty the muscles are tightened and contoured at the same time as the excess skin and fat are removed. In some cases, abdominoplasty is combined with liposuction for the best possible results.

Abdominoplasty is usually performed in our Australia office under a general anesthetic and typically requires a stay in the hospital for a few days. The risks associated with abdominoplasty include infection and scarring on the lower abdomen. However, infections are rare, and scarring should be minimal and easy to cover with normal clothing or a bathing suit.

If you are interested in abdominoplasty, contact the Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery in Australia today for more information.

At the Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery in Victoria, Australia we offer liposuction to patients who want to remove pockets of fat that do not go away through diets and exercise. Although liposuction can remove fat pockets, it is important to remember that this is not a weight reduction procedure.

Results from liposuction are reliant upon good skin quality, and the procedure is most effective on younger individuals whose skin still has some elasticity, as the skin will need to properly redrape over a smaller area once the excess fat has been removed.

Recent advances in liposuction, offered at our practice in Melbourne Australia, include the use of ultrasonic liposuction (wherein ultrasonic sound waves are used to help break up the fat) and power-assisted liposuction (wherein a motorised cannula vibrates in order to pass through the tissues more easily).

Liposuction may be used in breast surgery, either on its own to reduce breast bulk, or as an additional part of breast reduction surgery to reduce the lateral chest bulge. It is often also used at the same time as an abdominoplasty to eliminate excess fat. Bodylift Surgery

After significant weight loss or aging, excess skin can develop, especially in the abdominal area. Through bodylift surgery, this excess skin can be excised, and the remaining skin lifted and repositioned to improve the contour and appearance of the abdomen’s entire circumference. This procedure, while it can improve the abdominal region, is also successful on other areas of the body, including the inner thigh, outer thigh, flanks (love handles), and buttocks.

Calf Implants

Individuals who want to add more definition to their calf muscle or enlarge their calf for a more balanced leg may be interested in calf implants. These implants, made of soft, solid silicone are available in a range of sizes and are suitable for both men and women.

Some so-called ‘permanent,’ or longer lasting, fillers are available, but involve injection of foreign body material, which may become lumpy or put the recipient at risk of infection. If complications do ensue, these fillers are difficult to remove and therefore are not recommended.

Calf implant surgery is usually performed as a day procedure. The surgeon will make an incision behind the knee and insert the implant. Patients will notice an effective difference immediately following surgery.
